The Well has been Poisoned.

The internet as we know it has served it's useful life. It has been an important aspect of discourse through the late 20th and early 21st century. It has been a place where we can share ideas, thoughts, and opinions. It has been a place where we can learn and grow and foster our curiousity. We can make friends, we can find enemies, our entire existence can be be the internet. It has been a valuable tool to help connect one another, but the well has been poisoned.

For years there has been murmurs of bots and shills astro-turfing social media by selling useless crap or sharing fake news. Early internet advice dictated that you are not to trust anything you read online, we've gone in a dialectical different direction than this. We trust and believe all we read, we trust that we are interacting with human actors. With the advent of AI, Pandora's Box has been unleashed. The modern townsquares of social media have been taken over, we can no longer trust our eyes on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, Twitter or any other social media platform we called home. The internet has been weaponized and we must fight back.

There are well documented threat actors of nation states that are looking to sew division between you and your compatriots. Please heed the warning signs offered here to make informed decisions on how to handle these new and troubling times.

WTF is this shit?

The well has been poisoned.

We must tell the church, we must tell the world.

We must let the people know!

What can I do?

There is only 5 steps you need to take to show you are passionate about this cause. We are currently in an unprecedented time, so if you can take action on any of the following it would be great for the cause.

1. STOP social media today.

Visit with your loved ones in person and have positive discussions on how we can regain confidence in the internet again. The internet is one of the greatest tools humanity has invented, but there's always a shadow side and things we cannot perceive. Create a trusted means of communication where you know that it's 99% sure that you are talking to the person they say they are. Communicating with those you know is important. Messenger, texting, email and other contact means you've exchanged information with acquantances or friends are great means to stay strong in these times. But under no circumstances should we feed the trolls in internet townsquares.

2. Tell a friend.

This is a very small grassroots movement that has started in Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada. We need to reach as many people as possible and help correct the course of societial division. We need to meet with our neighbours, we need to meet with them in the streets. We need to see them eye to eye and know that we are talking to someone we know. We need to see into their heart to know they have our interests in mind. Download a PDF to canvas your neighbourhood.

3. Join a community IRL.

There is sage advice that says we are stronger together. With advent of internet, we currently have access to people at almost anytime of the day. If you are to take this mission seriously, then you must be prepared to get out of your comfort zone to rally some troops. You might need to meet new faces in your community, or knock on old friends doors. It could be hard, it could be isolating, but we're all in this together. The internet can not be trusted to have civil discourse, IRL is the way.

4. Create a channel of trust.

The internet will still have utility, we can still share ideas and thoughts with our friends. Amazon and the ilk of internet companies are not going anywhere. However, free and open discourse will no longer be tenable over long distances if you value trust. We will need a trust, we will create a network of trust through such tech as PGP asymmetric keys exchanged through verifiable means. We will need to create a network of trust that we can rely on to know that we are talking to the person we think we are talking to. This information will published here as a means to make it as accessible as possible. I'll be setting up a distributed means to trust those you are interacting with online using Hyperledger Indy to create a chain of trust here. Please do the same if you can, or join this one if you can't!

5. Join the newsletter.

Keep up to date with the latest news and updates on how we can create a grassroots movements around the world to fight back against the poisoned well. There will be many updates here and we need to keep the conversation going in perpetuum. The only thing for evil to prosper is for good folks to stand idly by. This information needs to be broadcasted far and wide so we do not lose all the prosperity that has come from the rise of global communication. This is a very existential threat to the very fabric of our species health and wellness. Why now?

In October 2024, Anthropic launched a major upgrade to Claude GPT 3.5 Sonnet and a new feature called "computer use" that allows AI to perform actions on a computer just like a human. This is a major breakthrough in the AI and greatly democractizes software development through the use of natural language processing and image recognition to complete tasks dynamically.

Please watch the 4 min 30 sec video after this to see with your eyes the problem with AI. It used to take a lot of money to setup troll farms in Eastern Europe, Russia or China (among other areas). Claude GPT 3.5 Sonnet with computer use is the perfect way to see you can make an online personailty without any knowhow. The stable diffusion videos and other created media means we need to be willing to only trust who we can verify with a high degree of certainty.
